I recently bought a 2008 KTM 450 EXC-r as I wanted something more dual sport worth. I'm liking the bike, and am now considering a multi day long dual sport ride totaling about 1300 miles. Theses LC4 motors (08 to 11), are species for oil change every 10 hours. So I would technically need a change nearly every other day .
Posted July 3, 2017. Only had new KTM last years, never had to change or adjust valves. 2013 SXF 450: 107h before piston change, a bit overtime. 167h before i sold it. Piston 3 was then mounted. 2014 SXF 450: 65h.

Feb 4, 2004. Oddometer: 1,590. Location: Eastern YahooLand. Markozero, I rode a dual sport ride at the last of October last year in Colorado and Utah with a bunch of "dual sport" bikers (think 400+ pound porkers Vs. my 250 pound 500). Between 55 and 70 there is almost zero vibration on my 500.
I follow the 600 mile oil change intervals and 1,800 valve inspection checks - no adjustments required so far. If you are an offroad Hero and mechanically inclined - get the KTM500. If you enjoy riding some technical offroad and want to focus on true dualsport and accumulate more miles over many years, get the CRF450L. EWdR7LW.
